How To Turn Your Shower Into A Relaxing Escape
I know a lot of people prefer to get in and get out when it comes to showering. A long bubble bath is more likely what comes to mind when they think of relaxing. Even though I do enjoy taking baths, for some reason, a long relaxing shower is not only my preference but I also view it as my escape. And really most days it’s the only time I have to myself, that I’m not worrying about anyone else.
In the morning after the gym, I take a quick shower. But in the evening after Rama has gone to bed, I can take my time and relax. I’ll listen to podcasts, audiobooks, or a chill playlist while sorting out my thoughts. I also do hair masks or spend a long time exfoliating, really whatever I feel like. And when I’m done, I’m relaxed and ready for bed. To me, it’s the perfect way to end the day. So here are my tips for turning your own shower time into a relaxing spa-like escape.
How To Turn Your Shower Into A Relaxing Escape
Soft Lighting
The first step to creating a relaxing environment is shutting off the bright lights and turning on some soft warm lighting. In addition, warm lighting in the evening is the best for creating a calm, soothing atmosphere. And is also conducive to a good night’s sleep.
Light Candles
Create a soothing ambiance with the flickering light of a candle’s soft flame. This added sense of luxury and warmth can help reduce stress and promote relaxation, while comforting scents prepare your mind and body for rest.
Listen To Music
Set a mood with some relaxing music or your favorite playlist. Then if you really want to create a spa-like vibe, play some soothing nature sounds or calming instrumental music.
Use A Luxurious Body Wash
A gentle body cleanser infused with a long-lasting scent transforms a simple shower into an experience. Using products you love because of the way they smell or how they make you feel (soft and hydrated) is just another reason to relax and enjoy your bathing.
Aromatherapy
Hanging a bouquet of fresh eucalyptus from your shower head is a super-easy way to create a spa-like atmosphere as the steam from your shower releases the natural oils. Or add calming formulas infused with natural essential oils like lavender to an aromatherapy diffuser.
An even easier way to enjoy the same benefits is to simply place a few drops of essential oil in the corners of the shower. The scent will still disperse with the steam and offer the same calming benefits.
Exfoliate Your Whole Body
I’m sure you guys have been able to figure out by now that I’m all about exfoliating. You can read some of my other posts on Exfoliating at Home and How To Achieve A Full Body Glow All Year Round for my tips. In fact, exfoliating your skin regularly removes any buildup of dead skin cells. This helps reduce ingrown hairs, allows body products to work more effectively, and also leaves skin super soft and smooth. Body scrubs, brushes, and loofahs all work, but my little hand mitts are my absolute favorite!
Plush Towels
Ultra-soft, high-quality towels are a practical, yet luxurious addition to your bathing routine. Just because the shower has come to an end, doesn’t mean the pampering has to. Wrap yourself in a soft plush bath towel and you can let the relaxation continue. Once you’ve upgraded your bath linens it’ll be hard to go back to anything less.
Bath Robe
You can recreate the feeling of being at a spa or nice hotel by stepping into a soft bathrobe. Although both are super absorbent, a terry cloth robe is warmer and heavier. Whereas a light cotton robe is lightweight and cooler. In fact, I personally have one of both. My everyday robe is the Cloud Cotton Robe from Parachute. And then in the winter, I use my heavier Matouk Cario Robe.
Moisturize
After toweling off in your soft plush bath towel, seal in hydration with a rich body cream. The Osea Undaria Algae Body Butter and the Undaria Alge Body Oil are my two favorite moisturizers that I use daily. They quickly absorb into your skin leaving it hydrated and nourished but never greasy.
