10 Fashion Tips For Knee High Boots
It’s my favorite time of year again. The time of year when the weather gets cooler and the boots get taller. Even though boots are a year-round wardrobe staple, the colder months of fall and winter are really their time to take center stage. Besides their ability to provide warmth and be a comfortable footwear choice, my favorite thing is how easy it is to build an outfit around them. A pair of knee-high boots are always going to be an upgrade from a pair of sneakers. And because they come in just about every color, material, and style that you can think of, there is a boot style out there to fit every mood and occasion.
Whether your style is laid-back casual or full-on glam, there are ways to style these versatile fashion pieces that will keep you on-trend. If you’re looking for inspiration in creating some new knee-high boot outfits, then read on as we go over a few of the best ways to style this wardrobe staple.
Fashion Tips For Knee High Boots
Heel Height
Knee-high boots come in a range of heel shapes and heights. From completely flat, a medium height platform, to an ultra-high heel. When making a decision on what to wear, the general rule of thumb is this. Flat soles and lower heel heights are for more casual outfits. Boots with a flat or chunky heel are also the better choice for long days of standing or walking.
High heeld boots will give you the extra height and also have you looking less casual and more dressed up. It’s completely fine to wear knee-high boots with tall heels during the day. However, nighttime is usually the better choice, especially if it’s a more formal evening. Other than that, the choice of the heel is entirely up to your personal preference. Obviously the higher the heel, the harder they are to walk in.
Styling Tip…
For the majority of people, the most comfortable heel height is thought to be between 1.2 and 3.5 inches. Heels higher than this offer very little foot support, which may lead to aches and pains after a long day.
Colors
Boots come in literally every shade of the rainbow, as well as most animal prints. But if you want a versatile pair of boots that can be worn with most outfits, opt for brown or black. Once you own several pairs of boots in neutral colors look for fun boots in bright colors and prints.
Styling Tip…
Try out a fully monochromatic look. Wear black from head to toe and match it with a pair of black boots. Tie a leather jacket around your waist for some shape and an effortless vibe. Your outfit doesn’t have to be black though. It can be any color you like, depending on how much attention you want. You can always break up a look by wearing a jacket or coat in a different color.
Suede Or Leather
Really the choice between leather and suede again comes down to personal preferences. However, here are a few things to keep in mind. Suede is a softer material and is better able to stretch and shape to your foot. This will make them much more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. This usually makes suede a better option for daytime. Leather on the other hand tends to have an edgier vibe that’s more suited to night.
Styling Tip…
Protect suede boots before wearing them for the first time with a suede protective spray. A product formulated specifically for suede will help prevent water and stain damage.
With Jeans
Current trends are pairing looser straight fit or mom jeans with knee-high boots for a more retro look. However, skinny jeans really do just work best. The reason is that the less fabric that has to tuck into the top of your boots the better.
Styling Tip…
Wearing a pair of high-rise skinny jeans with boots will make your legs look super long. Pull the look together by adding a crisp white shirt or blazer.
Under Long Skirts
Wearing a pair of high-heeled boots with a long or midi-length skirt can totally elevate your look. This is a good time to let your outfit be lowkey or understated and to let your boots take center stage. Snake or croc print boots look amazing with a solid color skirt. Additionally, if you live in an area with harsh winter weather, a tall pair of boots will offer another layer of protection.
Styling Tip…
A high-cut slit in a maxi skirt is super sexy, but it also allows for easier movement. Plus you want to be able to show off whatever gorgeous boots you’re wearing.
With A Mini Skirt
Most people don’t think of a mini skirt as being part of a winter outfit. But wearing a pair of boots with short skirts and dresses allows you to show off those beautiful boots while also providing some coverage that will keep you warm on cold days.
Styling Tip…
Mini skirts make great transition outfits for fall. Pair a mini skirt with a sweater, or in the wintertime, finish your outfit with a high coat.
With Leggings
Leggings are a wardrobe essential that pretty much every woman owns. Which is perfect because leggings and boots were made for each other. Another great thing is that an outfit with tall boots and leggings can easily be dressed up or down. Pair them with flat boots for comfortable but stylish coffee runs or a day of errands. Or wear them with a fancier heeled boot and an expensive top for lunch with friends or a day of shopping.
Styling Tip…
Offset the tighter fit of your leggings by wearing an oversized sweater or coat.
Pair Boots With A Long Coat
The trench coat, another timeless winter essential looks amazing with a pair of boots. Whether you wear your coat open to show off the outfit underneath or belted, the boot and trench coat combination is a classic for a reason. It’s easy, it’s timeless, and it’s sophisticated.
Styling Tip…
Cinch thicker wool coats at the waist to create an hourglass shape.
With A Sweater Dress
Styling Tip…
Wear a solid color dress, and let your boots be the main statement piece of you your outfit.
With Shorts
Knee-high boots with shorts look good year-round but make a particularly good fall transition outfit. Add a pair of black tights and finish off the outfit with an oversized blazer or a long cardigan. Slouchy boots also look good with shorts and outfits with shorter hemlines.
Styling Tip…
Wear a nude color boot with a block heel to elongate your legs.
