How To Style Straight Leg Jeans
So, I’m sure most everyone has heard by now that Gen Z has declared skinny jeans are no longer “in”. And that straight leg and bootcut style denim are where it’s now at. Can’t say I entirely agree with that. I don’t think any other style is more comfortable than a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans with a good amount of stretch. You won’t catch me tossing mine out anytime soon. But I have to say, I do enjoy changing up my style depending on my mood. So I am very happy that mom jeans, bootcut jeans, wide leg, and straight leg jeans have all come back around again. Living in Los Angeles, denim is pretty much the daily dress code, so it’s nice to have so many options!
How To Style Straight Leg Jeans
Because straight-leg jeans don’t have stretch, ladies with thicker legs, like myself, might have to take an extra step to get the perfect fit. I generally have to go up a few sizes in this style of jeans to get the right fit in my legs and butt, then take them to the tailor to have the waist brought in. The extra work and $45 tailor bill is of course annoying, but so is always having to wear a belt. And I hate the waist gap of ill-fitting jeans even more than the extra expense.
I also opt for a high rise and stay away from cropped styles. I know it’s not the case for everyone, but my legs need all the length they can get! And I feel like the wider leg combined with a cropped fit = stubby legs. Keep in mind when trying pants on that they are supposed to be loose on your leg.
Straight Leg Jeans Outfit Ideas
The great thing about denim as always is that you can dress it up or down depending on what you accessorize with. Here are a few ways that I like to style straight leg jeans

Casual Everyday Look
A lighter wash and some distressing make these pants perfect for an everyday casual look. Depending on the weather, you can pair your jeans with a sweater, t-shirt, tank top, or crop top and wear them with your favorite sneakers or sandals. You’ll be comfortable at the hanging out with friends, running errands or strolling through the city. Grab your shades and purse and you’re good to go!

Happy Hour/ Evening Out With Friends
This is honestly my favorite way to style straight-leg jeans! Looking sexy in comfortable clothes…yes please! Wear a small crop top, tank top or silk camisole under a cardigan or blazer. Or you can wear a nice blouse and leave off the extra layers. Just be sure if the blouse is loose you tuck it in at the waist and cinch with a belt to create curves. You can wear your pants long or cuff them right above the ankle. Wear them with some tall heels or strappy sandals.

Date Night
Corset tops are having a moment right now and I’m so here for it! Not only are they perfect for date night, but you can pair them with anything, even sweatpants, and have a great outfit. Danielle Guizio makes some beautiful ones, but I’ll also link some of my favorites below. Anyways, back to jeans! If you wear them un-cuffed, be sure to wear with a tall heel or boots to elongate your legs. And keep in mind that a dark wash is less casual. Depending on where you’re going that might be something you want. Do your hair and makeup and a small purse or clutch and you should be good to go!
I’ll link below some of my favorite denim brands and the jeans that I wear on repeat. Even though I have so many pairs of pants, I find myself always reaching for the same pairs. As always, I hope you found this helpful and if you have any questions or comments, please leave them down below!
