The 9 Skincare Tools You Should be Using

October 26, 2021
this post may contain affiliate links. this means i may earn a small commission if you purchase a product through my link at no extra cost to you. all selections are curated by me and opinions remain my own.

I’m not sure if you guys can tell by now, but I’m all about my routines. And one of my daily favorites is my skincare routine. For the most part sticking to a routine only takes a couple of extra minutes each day. And the benefits you achieve from those extra minutes last far into the future. I’m all about selfcare, so if there’s something that can easily be done to help myself or anyone else feel better, I say go for it! Over the last few years, skincare devices have become more accessible and these tools have become an essential part of my routine. And for good reason!

You can now get some of the same benefits from at-home treatments that used to only be available with an aesthetician or dermatologist appointment. From micro needling to depuffing, here are my ride or die skincare tools you should be using

Skincare Tools You Should Be Using

Foreo Luna 3 Face Scrubber

Foreo

I switched to the Luna 3 for Sensitive skin after a very painful relationship with my Clarasonic brush that lasted way to long. I fell in love with the Luna 3 the very first time I used it, and couldn’t believe what a difference it made. My face is always left feeling super clean without ever getting raw or irritated.

With a one-minute cleansing routine, the Luna 3 removes makeup, dirt, and oil while simultaneously giving a gentle facial massage. When your finished cleansing, your skin will be feeling incredibly clean, soft, and firm. I’m willing to bet that after one use you won’t want to end your day without it. One of my favorite things about this brush is that one USB charge provides up to 650 uses. Which means you really only need to charge it once a year. Another big plus is that replacement brushes are never necessary, cutting down on cost and waste.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha - Skincare Tools You Should be Using
wildling

Most mornings my routine starts with massaging in my facial oil and then 10 minutes of gentle upward strokes with my Gua Sha stone. Besides being super relaxing, when I’m finished my face is less puffy, looks lifted and is firmer.

Gua Sha, pronounced gwa sha is a facial treatment based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its use helps to alleviate tension in the face, puffiness, and lymphatic drainage. As well as lifting and firming facial muscles. You can watch videos here on proper techniques and benefits.

Jade Roller

Herbivore

If for any reason I’m rushing in the morning and don’t have a lot of time to spend on my morning routine, I’ll just use my jade roller. It’s super relaxing and feels soo good. But that’s not the only reason I use it.

Jade rolling has been a beauty ritual in China dating as far back as the 7th century. And for good reason. This gentle massage tool helps seal in skin care product and reduce puffiness by supporting lymphatic drainage. Skin is left looking more firm with a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles. The Jade stone is thought to bring peace, harmony and reduce stress. Rollers can also be found in rose quartz and amethyst.

Ice Roller

Ice Roller
Finishing touch

You know that feeling of waking up after a night of drinking or eating salty food and your face is just puffy and blah. That’s when using an ice roller right out of the freezer feels like heaven. The ice-cold temps visibly depuff, and tighten pores.

Crafted from professional-grade stainless steel for even, sustained delivery of cold therapy, this dual-ended Cryo Roller chills skin to the critical 45°F temperature known to help increase micro-circulation and collagen production. After cleansing your face and applying your serums roll across your skin to de-puff, calm inflammation, and reduce redness. Use the small roller to target hard-to-reach areas such as under and above the eyes.

Trinity Facial Toning Device

Trinity Facial Toning Device
Nuface

After I depuff my face with my Gua Sha stone, I like to use my Nuface facial toner. It only takes about five minutes for a more lifted and toned face. To really reap the best results this anti aging device can offer, you need to use it consistently.

Microcurrent devices work by using gentle microcurrents to send electric currents through your skin to stimulate the muscles and tone and tighten the skin.

Microneedling

Microneedling - Skincare Tools You Should be Using
beauty bio

I like to microneedle my face maybe twice a week with a couple of days of downtime in between. In the evening before bed after cleansing, I’ll go over my face with this microneedling roller. It only takes about one minute of time and I can see the difference the next morning.

Microneedling works by puncturing tiny holes into the skin. This causes superficial trauma which in turn immediately triggers your skin’s natural healing process. Your cells respond to the imperceptible micro channels by stimulating collagen, and helping restore skins volume. This helps in the prevention of future fine lines and wrinkles and improves the appearance of any existing ones. Another added benefit of microneedling is the increased absorption and deeper penetration of your facial serums and skincare products.

High Frequency

High Frequency for skin
skin gym

My aesthetician first bought me a high-frequency wand about 5 years ago. I call it my zapper for the sound it makes and the little snap you can feel when using it. My skin was going through a really bad period of hormonal acne flare-ups. She wanted me to be able to manage it the best I could in between appointments. My skin is a lot better now, but anytime I feel a bump starting to form, I pull this bad boy out and start zapping!

The wand works by delivering focused thermal energy to the skin, heating up the sebaceous glands, and destroying acne-causing bacteria. It also oxygenates the skin increasing circulation and reducing inflammation and redness.

 LED Light Therapy Face Mask

Boost Advanced LED Light Therapy Face Mask

An LED light therapy face mask is another high tech skincare tool that my aesthetician recommended to me. When my hormonal acne that was caused by my autoimmune disorder was at it’s worst, my daughter’s skin was also really bad. Her breakouts were a combination of puberty, a bad dairy allergy and being a sweaty volleyball player. Since the mask could help us both I felt it was a good investment. The mask I bought a few years ago was twice as expensive but has the same technology. Since then led masks have become more popular and readily available, along with less expensive.

The LED mask works in two ways. Red light helps stimulate collage and elastin, calms redness, evens out skin tone and promptes healing. Blue lights kills acne causing bacteria, reduces calms and reduces redness, as well as helps guard against future breakouts.

Dermaplaning

Schick Hydro Silk Touch-Up

About once a month I go over my face with one of these dermaplaning razors. Dermaplaning gently exfoliates your skin, removing the top layer of dead skin cells, and with it all peach fuzz and facial hair. The result is super smooth, glowing skin. Your skin care products will absorb better, and make up will go on so smooth! Even though there are some dermaplaning devises out there like the Dermaflash that cost well over $100, they are completely unnecessary and a waste of money. At around $5.00 for 3 razors, this mini skincare tools are a great way to upgrade your beauty routine without spending your savings. Here are a few things to know about dermaplaning.

  • Dermaplaning is suitable for all skin types.
  • It will NOT make your hair grow back thicker.
  • The results last about a month.

I always get excited at the chance to try out new products and devices. Obviously some things just aren’t worth the money or your time. But occasionally I find something great and add it into my routine. I’m sure after reading through this list you can see why each of these tools made it to my list of must-have skincare beauty tools. But I want to know if there are any skincare devices that you guys swear by? If so let me know in the comments below!

The most important $27 I ever spent taught me why I overspend.

You buy something you didn’t really need. You feel amazing for about an hour. Then the good feeling quietly turns into guilt… and the little speech starts: why did I do that?

This week’s episode of the Purfect Sunday Podcast is about the emotional side of money — not budgeting or spreadsheets, the feelings underneath what and why we buy. 💛

Here’s what I learned the hard way:
→ Most spending was never about the thing. It’s about a feeling we’re trying to change — stress, sadness, boredom, loneliness, feeling invisible.

→ Breaking the cycle isn’t about white-knuckling your way through life never buying anything nice. It’s naming the emotion driving the need to shop, and putting time between the urge and the buy.

This week’s challenge: next time you feel the urge to buy something you weren’t planning on, pause before you check out and ask one question — what am I feeling right now?
  • Your life can look completely different 6 months from now if you get strict with yourself and lock-in 🔒
  • We officially have 6 months left in 2026 — and no, you are not behind.

Six months is enough time to lock in. To become the girl who drinks the water, reads the books, moves her body, takes care of her hair, skin and nails, and actually dresses like she’s the main character. Six months is enough time to glow up in any area of your life you’ve been putting off.

And here’s your reminder: money spent on your health, learning, and feeling your best — is never wasted. That’s not splurging. That’s investing in the woman you’re becoming.
Half the year is still yours. Let’s not waste it. 🤍
