The 7 Day Self-Care Challenge For a Happier Life
I think we can all relate when I say that sometimes life gets hard….like really hard. And for some reason, when things start to get rough, the universe will decide it’s the perfect time to pile on. In difficult times, it’s easy to prioritize the needs of others over our own, and sometimes that’s absolutely necessary! But continuing on this way for too long will eventually lead to burnout, losing sight of ourselves and the things that bring us happiness, making it much harder to help care for the people we love.
Currently, we are starting week three of my son’s kindergarten transition, and even with his IEP, it’s been rough. I’m talking daily meetings with the teacher, principal, and school psychologist rough. My favorite person in the world is battling a rare type of cancer, and I try to be there with him as much as I can. Whether it’s to cook, clean, sit in silence, or pass out on the couch next to him for a few hours every day. And with an ever-growing to-do list, a lack of sleep, and chronic stress, my Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Disease is definitely flaring up. Anyhow, I think you get it. Life is fucking hard sometimes, and there’s no quick fixes or easy outs.
And for this reason, it’s especially important to prioritize a self-care routine. Even when things are good, taking some extra time to take better care of yourself on a daily basis should be a priority. Is it your physical health, mental well-being, relationships, or something else? Are there any new healthy habits you’d like to work on? Engaging in regular exercise not only improves your physical fitness but also releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones that enhance your mood. I find it easiest to exercise first thing in the morning, but that doesn’t work for everyone’s schedule. It’s better to find the time of day in which you have the most free time and schedule it. Fueling yourself with nutritious foods provides the energy and nutrients your body needs to function optimally. Try to incorporate a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your meals, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Take the time to groom and dress in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable, boosting your self-esteem and overall happiness. Creating a nice skincare routine for morning and night doesn’t require much time and is an easy way to fit in some self-care at the start and the end of the day.

A new habit that I’m working on is leaving my phone outside of my bedroom at night. That way, I can’t reach for it when I’m struggling with sleep or the following day as soon as I wake up.

This is something I like to do every morning as soon as I wake up.
