15 Mom Graduation Outfit Ideas
As moms, we celebrate every milestone, big or small. Graduations are huge milestones, not only for the graduating students but also for their parents. Graduation day is a momentous occasion that is worth celebrating. Naturally, we want to look our best on one of our proudest days as a mother, so it can be difficult deciding what to wear.
Although, in general, graduation ceremonies have become more casual affairs in recent years, most people still think of graduation as a time to dress up. Whether you’re dreading your son or daughter’s upcoming graduation, or counting down the days with excitement, you might not have thought much about what you’re going to wear. So, today I’m sharing a round-up of outfits that moms can wear to their children’s graduation.
15 Mom Graduation Outfit Ideas
Floral Print Cotton Midi Dress
For a summery, feminine look, consider a floral dress. I love the Wells Floral Cotton Midi-Dress from Staud, available at Nordstrom. It was my Easter dress this year and I felt so chic and beautiful in it, so when I thought of graduation dresses for mom, I immediately thought of this one. I styled it with white kitten heels and a white bag, and opted for minimalist, chic jewelry.
Black Midi Skirt With A White Tank
I adore a good black-and-white outfit, so I incorporated the color combination into the perfect graduation outfit for stylish moms. I started with the attention-grabbing Fazal Midi Dress from NBD, then paired it with a white Slit Neck Halter Top.
To ensure you’ll feel comfortable, even through a notoriously long college graduation, I recommend wearing black sandals.
White Tank With A Gold Slip Skirt
Here’s another great skirt option for when you want to look chic at your son or daughter’s graduation ceremony. I paired this gorgeous gold skirt from Heartloom with a white high-neck tank. For shoes, keep it simple with white heels or sandals.
Sleeveless Cotton Maxi Dress
A sleeveless cotton maxi dress, like the LOTTIE Dress from SNDYS x REVOLVE, would be perfect for a mom to wear to graduation in the spring or summer. The LOTTIE Dress comes in five colors, including white, black, and oat (pictured above). Wear it with strappy sandals or heels, like the Dolce Vita Barly Sandal.
Wrap Midi Dress
Wrap dresses are universally flattering and perfect for graduation. For modest graduation outfit ideas, consider this elegant dress from Boden. Add a pair of gold heels to feel confident as you celebrate your son or daughter.
Black Jumpsuit
A jumpsuit is a fail-proof option for just about any occasion. A good one is one of the best wardrobe investment pieces. This black halterneck jumpsuit from Amanda Uprichard is perfect to wear to your child’s graduation. For a chic, monochromatic look, wear it with black heels and a black bag.
Pop Of Color Jumpsuit
If you prefer to wear a jumpsuit in a gorgeous, lively color, consider the Make It a Date Magenta Sleeveless Wide-Leg Jumpsuit from Lulus. It features adjustable spaghetti straps and a sleeveless bodice with a flounce overlay that works for any cup size.
Matching Skirt And Jacket
As much as you might wish you could show up to the graduation ceremony in loungewear, you’re much better off wearing a different kind of matching set. I’m thinking something dressier and more polished. Like this textured knit jacket and matching skirt.
Matching Crop Top And Wide Leg Pants
If the above jacket and skirt set aren’t your vibe, here’s another matching set to consider for your graduation outfit. This look from NONChalant Label was too chic to pass up. The sleeveless silk crop top with matching wide-leg pants is so elegant. Plus, each piece can be worn separately, giving you a ton of mix-and-match opportunities for other occasions.
Shorts And Blazer Set
One more matching set! If you haven’t yet tried the “blazer as a shirt” trend, this is your chance. Although sold separately, the blazer and shorts from Favorite Daughter can be worn together as a modern yet sophisticated matching set. I can’t get over how gorgeous the basil color looks on warm skin tones.
Black Dress
The key to wearing a black dress to a graduation ceremony is finding one that’s event-appropriate but won’t make you look like you’re heading to a funeral. If you prefer a more modest LBD, check out the Fia Belted Dress from Brochu Walker. Or there’s the mini dress from Rails for a more casual look. A third option, not pictured above, is a black slip dress. Check out my post on how to style a slip-dress for ideas. I know many of you moms would look fabulous in either one!
Mini Dress With Cowboy Boots
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you probably already know how much I love cowboy boots. I’d live in them if I could. So, naturally, I had to include a look featuring my favorite shoes. This dress from Hemant and Nandita was practically made to be worn with cowboy boots, like these ivory boots from Raye.
Paperbag Pants With A White Top
Paperbag pants are a modern alternative to classic dress pants. For a lovely graduation outfit, pair these beige paperbag pants from Petal & Pup with either a white cami or a long-sleeve blouse.
Dress Pants And A Button Down Shirt
If paperbag pants aren’t your thing, no worries! There are a bunch of beautiful dress pants in classic silhouettes to choose from. Find a pair you love, like maybe the Wide Leg Pleated Pant from Matthew Bruch or the Isotta Pant from Faithful The Brand, then slip on a white button-down.
White Dress
Don’t feel like you have to avoid wearing white to your son or daughter’s graduation. Although many people consider white to be the traditional dress color for graduates, moms can wear white too! Consider the lovely Kimmie Midi Dress from Majorelle. If you’re more of a mini-dress mom, the Feel the Sunshine White Tassel Mini Dress from Lulus is a fantastic option! Both look stunning with gold jewelry.
