My Beauty Maintenance Schedule
I’m sure we all have the basics of a daily beauty routine down. Wash your face, protect your skin, etc. But I thought I’d go a little more in-depth about what I do to always feel my best. Over time, I’ve figured out what works best for me, and sticking to my beauty maintenance schedule has dramatically improved my skin, my hair, and through that, my confidence. Having clearer skin means I wear a lot less makeup and always feel put together. No more worrying about last-minute plans that I don’t feel ready for!
Beauty Maintenance Schedule
Daily
Water
I try and always keep to my minimum of 3 liters a day. If there’s one thing I can say that makes a massive difference in my skin health and the way the rest of my body feels, it would be drinking a lot of water. Just accept frequent bathroom visits as a way of life. Although annoying, you’ll eventually get used to it. I keep this water bottle with me at all times to help keep track of my water intake and cut back on buying water bottles.
Shave Legs And Exfoliate
I lasered everything years ago, so I only have light hair growth now. It only takes a few minutes to shave every morning, and I think it’s totally worth it to always to have silky legs and never have to worry about what I’m going to wear. After shaving, I follow that up by quickly exfoliating my whole body with a hand mitt. Not only does this keep you extra soft, but removing dead skin cells will help avoid bumps or ingrown hairs.
Moisturize
Right after I step out of the shower, I slather on lotion or body oil to seal in moisture and keep dry skin at bay. I try and always use body products that are more natural. Right now, I like the Milk & Honey body lotion from Burt’s Bees. As I’m sure you guessed from the name, it’s not plant-based. But it is paraben-free, which is something I am looking for. Especially when it comes to products that will be soaking into my skin, it also smells fantastic! As a beauty brand, Burt’s Bees isn’t perfect, but I feel like they’re doing an excellent job of being eco-friendly.
NuFace
This is a small microcurrent device that helps lift and tone your face. I added this to my daily routine a few months ago. It takes about 5 minutes, and I try to do it as soon as I’m out of the shower every morning. But if I find myself running short on time, I’ll do it at night instead. The results are instant but require consistent use to maintain the results. As with most things in life, being consistent is key.
Aveda Scalp Brush
Every night before bed, I brush out my hair with my regular brush, then use this exfoliating scalp brush by Aveda. It’s basically dry brushing your scalp. Besides feeling amazing, it helps to remove buildup and increase microcirculation. Both are important for healthy hair growth.
Eyelash Serum
The last step of my bedtime skin routine is my lashes. I had lash extensions for close to 10 years and truly loved them. But at the beginning of 2020, I removed the false lashes. My natural lashes were in pretty bad shape, and took several months of nightly care to grow them back. I use a lash serum every night to help keep my lashes long and full, and it really makes a huge difference. If you want to improve your natural lashes, I 100% recommend this serum. I then use either a disposable spoolie or the tip of my finger and lightly coat my lashes with cold-pressed castor oil.
Weekly
Hair Mask
Once a week, I do either an oil treatment before washing my hair or a deep conditioning hair mask after washing it. For my oil treatments, I use 100% pure natural oils like coconut or jojoba oil. I try and leave it on for at least 20 minutes, but if I have more time, I’ll keep the oil in my hair longer. Just use hot water to wash out the oil and warm water with the hair mask.
Wash And Style Hair
I can usually go a whole week between washes. If I have the time, I’ll let my hair air dry and then either straighten it or curl it. If I need to get my hair done quickly, I’ll blow dry it using the Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush from Drybar. This tool has changed my life as far as being able to do a decent blowout on my hair. I also have a Dyson Airwrap Styler, but I have found that I prefer to use the Drybar brush. After my hair is curled, it will usually stay until I rewash it, as long as I don’t sweat it out. If I need to refresh it, it only takes a few minutes to go over it again with a curling iron.
Face Mask
Definitely a big part of my skincare routine! Depending on how my skin feels, I’ll either do an exfoliating face mask like this one from Ren or, if I’m breaking out, a sulfur clay mask. Finding a suitable mask for your skin type is an easy way to impact your beauty routine positively.
Every Other Week
Mani And Pedi
I’d have to say that getting my nails done is the # 1 item in my beauty routine that I dislike the most. I don’t know why; I guess how long it takes to sit there, unable to use my hands, and it’s usually a little painful. The only thing I dislike more is having my nails not done. I skip the nail polish and do dip powder or Gel X extensions on my fingers and gel polish on my toes. This way, there’s no worrying about chipping or peeling paint. If I have to, I can go for three weeks between appointments, but I generally try to keep it to two weeks.
Once A Month
Facial
Things have been a little different with COVID-19, but facials have been something that I’ve been religious about for my entire adult life! I really don’t enjoy most beauty maintenance. But I keep up with it all because I like things to be a certain way. The one exception to this is my facials. They’re peaceful and relaxing, and I always fall asleep and wake up glowing… what’s not to love?
Home Laser Hair Removal Treatments
So recently, I bought a laser hair removal device for home use. It was a little pricey, but in reality, it’s way cheaper than doing a yearly touch-up in a medspa. I use it for about 10 minutes once a month, and it keeps my whole body fuzz-free.
Day Spa
I try and make it to my local Korean Day Spa once a month. I’ll either get a massage or a body scrub. That, plus relaxing in the sauna and steam room, helps me to decompress and reset. It’s a great way to spend the first half of the day with some girlfriends, followed by a late lunch. Or if I’m alone, I’ll bring a book and enjoy a few hours of quiet time.
When Needed
Hair Cut and Colored
I try and stick to getting my hair trimmed every 3 months. If I’m keeping my hair light, I’ll get it highlighted every six months. And when it’s dark, which it is right now, I’ll color it every 3 months. My roots grow much lighter than the rest of my hair, which I think looks funny. So even though the dark color is less damaging for my hair, it ends up being more upkeep.
Teeth Whitening
Every 6 months or so, I do a series of Crest Whitening Strips. Even though I don’t drink coffee, I do drink a lot of tea. Using the strips makes it easy to keep my teeth white and my smile bright without spending a fortune at the dentist.
Eyebrows Microbladed
I was a serious victim of over-tweezing in my teens. Why didn’t anyone hide my tweezers from me?! Sadly my brows never fully recovered from that stage. I first micro-bladed my brows 5 years ago to help even out my shape and fill in any gaps. Besides looking much better, it saves me a lot of time every day now that I don’t have to fill my eyebrows in constantly. Touch-ups every 12-18 months keep them looking their best and only take about 90 minutes.
Botox
I don’t have the best eyesight and squint and frown a lot. That plus age has started giving me some 11’s that I’m not ok with. So whenever I see them starting to move, I freeze them again. That usually ends up being about every 6 months. It’s not something I worry about right now, but at some point, if I start to see other wrinkles forming, I’ll consider getting more Botox for them as well.
