Coconut Milk & Avocado Hair Mask
Right now we have harsh winter weather combined with dry indoor heating. Next, it’ll be the hot summer sun, chlorine bleach from days at the pool, and dry indoor air conditioning. All these things will wreak havoc on your hair by drying it out, causing split ends and breakage.
Even when we wash our hair, the shampoo strips our hair and scalp of its natural oils. So the best thing we can do to maintain healthy hair is to do some deep conditioning hair masks at least once a week.
With social distancing orders still in place in many cities, this is the perfect time to work on repairing any existing damage. So, whether you have dry damaged hair or would simply like to add some hydration to your locks, this super easy DIY Coconut Milk & Avocado Hair Mask is absolutely perfect for both!
Coconut Milk & Avocado Hair Mask
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp honey
- 3 tbsp coconut milk
Instructions
Combine all the ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth. Then comb the mask through dry hair from roots to ends. Put your hair up into a loose bun and cover your hair with a shower cap. Leave the mask on for at least 15 minutes, but if you have the time, the longer the better! After your time is up, shampoo and condition as usual. If you have any oil left in your hair, you may want to double wash with shampoo.
Other Hair Tips
I recommend always keeping a jar of coconut oil in your bathroom for beauty purposes only. On days that you’re short on time, but still, need to wash your hair, I suggest you try doing this. Cover your hair in coconut oil, then brush your teeth, shave your legs, exfoliate… whatever your shower routine is. Try to keep the coconut oil in your hair for 15 minutes if you can, then wash your hair as usual. If you’re able to do at least that, once a week, your hair will have a much easier time being able to retain moisture. That’s the key to stopping breakage and faster hair growth.
Next, I would recommend adding good fats like avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, and nuts to your diet. Not only your hair will benefit from this, but also your skin and overall health will as well.
Lastly, I would recommend investing in a quality hairbrush. Years ago, my hair was extremely damaged from a terrible dye job. I had black hair and wanted to go blonde again. To say my hair wasn’t happy would be a massive understatement. Because I’d heard and read so much on how amazing Mason Pearson brushes were, I decided I needed to get one. The idea of spending that much money on a hairbrush was insane to me, but I quickly learned why they have the reputation they do. In fact, as my hair grew longer I bought a second larger brush. Not only have I never regretted the purchase, but they are also the only 2 brushes I’ve used for the past 11 years. These things last!
