5 Neutral Color Outfit Ideas
I’ve been known to wear a pop of color on occasion, but for the most part, I’m all about neutrals. Neutral-colored outfits easily give you chic, old-money vibes. They transcend time and trends.
If you don’t wear them often, you’ll find that embracing neutral colors can give you endless outfit options. They’re also an excellent base for more colorful accessories.
To share my love of neutral looks, I’m sharing a round-up of neutral outfit ideas you’ll love.
5 Neutral Color Outfit Ideas
Loungewear Set
I could live in a cozy loungewear set. Matching sets are super on trend right now, but they’re also great for mixing and matching to create new comfy outfits. Wear them around the house or out and about, it’s totally up to you.
You can mix different textures and play with patterns to create different looks, but the idea is that you wear two or three pieces in the same general color, like white, beige, brown, or black, for a cohesive look. There are even options that feel like loungewear but don’t look like it, like this crop top and shorts from Vitamin A.
Here are some great neutral-colored loungewear sets to consider:
- Free People Hailee Waffle Stitch Cardigan and Pants
- The Upside Soho Sweatshirt and Pants
- NSF Zuma Drawstring Waist Crew and Rusty Side Slit Flair Pant
- WeWoreWhat Hot Short and Wide Strap Tank
Linen-Blend Pants With A Fitted Tank
Here’s another on-trend look featuring pieces you can easily get from Amazon.
A pair of loose-fit, straight-leg pants are a must-have for casual days. They’re 50% cotton and 50% linen, making them super lightweight and comfortable. You could easily rock these in the spring, summer, or fall. Grab these in beige and you have a fantastic pair of neutral bottoms to wear with other pieces in your closet that are within the neutral color palette.
For a summer outfit that matches my personal style, I like to pair these pants with a neutral cropped tank. These seamless ribbed cropped tank tops from Amazon come in three neutral colors: black, brown, and beige. Each one of them can be styled with the linen-blend pants for a stylish summer look.
Neutral Pieces With Denim
Denim is a neutral within itself, so pairing it with other neutral-colored items in your closet is an easy way to put together an outfit. Browse my Instagram, and you’ll see photo after photo of me in jeans and a black top of some sort. It might be my go-to look, but it’s just one way to wear denim with neutrals.
You can also create a neutral color outfit by throwing on a beige, gray, or brown trench coat (find my favorite trench coats here), or by wearing your favorite pair of neutral bottoms with a denim jacket.
Head-To-Toe Black Outfit
It’s no secret; I love wearing black. It’s so flattering and versatile, just like these nail colors that go with everything. Creating a so-called column of color with a monochromatic look is definitely one of the easiest ways to make neutrals look sophisticated and trendy.
When wearing black from head to toe, you want to create a balanced silhouette. Think a looser top with fitted bottoms or vice-versa.
Neutral-Colored Dress Outfit
You can also build a fabulous neutral color outfit around a dress. When you’re sticking with neutrals, your best bet is to incorporate shoes and accessories in other neutral shades. Not only does it create a chic look, but it’s a lot easier than trying to find the exact color of different pieces just so that you can wear them together.
For example, in the picture above, I styled a brown dress with white shoes and an off-white bag. Or for this look, I styled a cream sweatshirt dress with black boots and a black bag.
