Happy New Year! | My Year In Review & What’s New
At the start of 2021, I thought, like most everyone else, that the world would soon go back to normal. And even though a few things did return to a semblance of normalcy, life hasn’t returned to the way it once was. And I guess that’s ok. Because even though there were a lot of challenges throughout the year, there was also a lot of growth! So I’m taking a moment to write this more personal post to share with you some of my thoughts on the last year. As well as what I’m working on and looking forward to for the new year. And of course to wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2022!
My Year In Review & What’s New
What I’m Most Proud Of
Being Single
Like I already said, 2021 had a lot of challenges, but also a lot of growth. I was married at 18 and stayed married for over 18 years. 2021 was the first year of my entire life that I was single and on my own. It was important to me to take the year and really figure out who I am and what I want from life. Keeping my boundaries and protecting my space was also a big priority. No longer giving people a pass for disrespectful behavior meant loosing a couple of “friends”. But I’m at peace with that.
Purfect Sunday
I started this blog in January last year. And with the exception of a couple of random weeks, throughout the year I stuck to the schedule I committed to. I’ve been able to learn so much along the way and am now ready to expand on that.
My Daughter
Satya graduated high school and started college! There really was never any doubt in my mind that she would. But my mother didn’t finish high school and neither did I. So her being the first girl in the family to go to college adds another level of pride. She has 5 more months in Paris, then she’ll be back in LA to finish school at USC.
What’s New Around Here
Rama’s New Preschool
is probably one of the things I’m absolutely happiest about. When I was told by his previous preschool that he couldn’t return I was pretty devastated. Not to mention how heartbreaking it was listening to him cry that if he could “just go back to school he’d promise to listen and be so good”. Rama only attended the school for about 5 weeks, but the problems started on day one. After the first hour of being there he became really loud, disruptive, and combative. This would continue for pretty much the rest of the school day. I was at a complete loss as to why he was behaving like this. He loved going to school and I had never seen the behavior that the teachers were describing.
As it turns out, Rama appears to have a sensory processing disorder. He’s very sensitive to noise and being around crowds of people. Both of which made a school environment super challenging for him even though he wants to be with other kids. His new school is a Therapeutic Preschool that offers early intervention for kids that have special needs. I hope it’s exactly the teachers and environment he needs. That way he and I can both learn the best ways to help him manage his sensitivities. As mothers, we want to see our kids happy and thriving.
Amazon Storefront
You can find My Amazon Storefront in the shop menu at the top of the page. Having this storefront is another way for me to easily share my must-haves and everyday essentials with you.
Weekly workouts are something I’ve been wanting to do from the very beginning of starting this blog. Now that Rama will be in school, I’ll actually have the time to start filming these workouts. They’ll be workouts that can be done from home, with minimal equipment that you can follow along with. So keep a lookout for these videos coming soon!
What I’m Looking Forward To
Unfortunately, I’m starting off the new year with Covid and am currently still self-isolating. So the first thing I’m looking forward to is feeling better! After that, I’m looking forward to another year of personal growth and adventure. Spending time with friends, traveling, and creating a community here at Purfect Sunday.
