5 Summer Must Have Beauty Essentials
The Summer months are fully upon us and with that some extra work to keep our hair and skin healthy. An extra step here and there can really go a long way in preventing damage. This post is dedicated to my top 5 summer must-have beauty essentials that I use constantly all summer long.
5 Summer Must-Have Beauty Essentials
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must-have all year long, but especially in the summer months. The sun is stronger and we spend so much more time outdoors. Protecting our skin with sunscreen and even better, a hat is crucial when it comes to preventing signs of premature aging. Finelines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sunspots will pop up faster than you think. Your future self will thank you for taking the extra time to apply sunscreen every day. And also reapply when you’re out for the day.
On my face, I use Skinsuit Face by Skin Authority. It’s a sheer, lightweight, SPF 50 mineral sunscreen that protects and restores skin from broad-spectrum UV, blue light, infrared, heat, and pollution. It’s neither greasy nor tacky, won’t leave you with a ghost-like appearance and makeup can easily be applied over it.
For the rest of my body, I use Supergoop Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50. It’s fast-absorbing and non-greasy and doesn’t leave that horrible-looking white cast, especially on darker skin tones. This sunscreen is also water-resistant for days that I’m outside exercising or swimming. As long as it’s reapplied every few hours you should be good. I’ve yet to get a sunburn while using this.
Hydrating Hair Mask
Saltwater, chlorine, and the sun all take a toll on your hair. By the end of summer, hair can be left dry and brittle with lots of breakage and split-ends. A weekly deep conditioning hair mask like Genesis Strengthening Hair Mask from Kerastase, which is the one I use. It will help strengthen and nourish your hair to prevent future breakage.
Cleansing Balm
At the end of a long day, I want to really make sure that I thoroughly remove anything on my skin. Getting through the layers of sunscreen, makeup, sweat, and dust require more than just soap and water. The first step in my evening skincare routine is using Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. It melts away sunscreen and makeup and leaves skin feeling clean and hydrated.
Exfoliating Cloths
These exfoliating washcloths have been my secret to smooth, bump-free skin for years now. I first came across them at a Korean Day Spa and have never been without them since. They’re gentle enough to use in the shower daily but effective enough at removing any dead skin. When proper exfoliation becomes a regular part of your routine you can expect to see a big decrease in body acne and ingrown hairs.
Water Cream
I never skip a chance to add some hydration to my skin. Both morning and night after washing my face, that added moisture comes in the form of The Water Cream from Tatcha. It’s a super lightweight, oil-free, and anti-aging moisturizer that won’t leave your skin sticky or greasy feeling. Dry skin ages faster, so always keep it hydrated by drinking enough water and using good beauty products.
I hope everyone has a safe, fun-filled, beautiful summer!
